OVHSA Meeting Minutes - May 2025

Date: Wednesday, May 7th, 2025

  • President (Joelle Bernhard)  
    • A motion was brought to the floor to vote in the April Meeting Minutes, was seconded and the May meeting began. 
    • 6th Grade soccer tournament on May 15th (all elementary schools). Oak View players wear green.  
    • Autism Awareness: HSA matched BOE donation of red & blue lights.  The school was also lit up in red and blue lights. 
  • Principal (Linda Lo not present- talking points delivered by Lauren Benech)
    • Thank you!  Thank you so much for treating our teachers to an amazing Teacher Appreciation week! We appreciate you! 
    • NJSLA: NJSLA testing grades 3-6 has gone smoothly over the past two weeks. Our 6th-grade students completed their NJSLA testing yesterday, and our 3rd and 4th graders will conclude their assessments by Friday. Next week, our 5th-grade students will take the NJSLA-Science test on Monday and Tuesday to conclude with NJSLA testing. We will also administer make-up tests for any students who were absent during the initial testing period.  
    • We are so proud of our Tigers for demonstrating great resilience and showcasing all that they have learned this year! Go, tigers! 
    • Happy Mother’s Day: Wishing all of our Oak View families a very Happy Mother’s Day! May your day be filled with love, joy and special moments with our Tigers! Thank you to all the mothers and mother figures for the care, support, and inspiration you provide every day. Enjoy your special day!  
    • Safety Reminder: Please use the crosswalk when walking with your children. Staying alert and crossing safely sets a great example for our students and helps keep everyone safe. Thank you for your cooperation. 
    • Caught with Character Program: Congratulations to all Tigers who were nominated by teachers and peers for demonstrating being a “Positive Leader/Team Player” throughout April! We’re excited to celebrate their achievements with a special bagel breakfast.

    • Teacher Appreciation week means so much and makes such a difference--thank you!

    • Reminder to please submit receipts for reimbursement to Treasures.  Deadline to submit reimbursement paperwork is  June 20th. 
    • Look for Committee sign-ups for 2025-2026 in the coming weeks. 
    • HSA to provide Committee Packets for KG Orientation.

    • Treasurers' report available, please reach out to the Treasurers.  
    • Proposed Budget for next year
      • Old Board  met with New Board and made tweaks for proposed budget. 
      • Will be voted on at June meeting.  If you wish to have a copy, please email the board. Please reach out with any questions.
      • Discussion to add money to Giving Garden (see New Business).

    • Our meeting is being recorded.

    • Thanks to all Class Parents for the Teacher Appreciation posters! 
    • It's been a busy week of spoiling our teachers this week! 
    • Thanks to the Fire Department for donating breakfast to our teachers and staff!
  • Committee Updates:   
    • Giving Garden 
    •  Maintenance on the garden is complete and is ready for planting!  Thanks to Girl Scout Troop 20036 (4th grade) and all families for their help in getting the garden ready!
    • New dates for students: 
      • Tuesday, May 13, 1:30 - 3:00 - painting with Grades 6, K, ABA, SLLD 
      • Thursday, May 15, 8:30 - 12:00 - planting with Grades 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
      • Thanks to all volunteers!
      • Watering sign-up is available--parents (and students [graduates too]) please reach out!
      • Discussed potential to add more student involvement, as enrichment or club, or at flex time. 
    • Someone Special Sale 
      • Friday May 9th during school 
      • Plants and items range from $1, $5, $10, $12, $15
      • Please send money and a box to bring plants home with your child.

  • New Business  
    • Jenn O put a motion on the floor for the following changes: 
      • Proposal to remove Pep Rally as a Standing Committee. 
      • Proposal to remove the School Store as a Standing Committee, wrap into Spirit Wear 
      • Proposal to remove Community Rewards as a Standing Committee, wrapped into FUNRaising. 
      • The motion was voted on and unanimously approved. 
    • The 2025-2026 Budget proposal was discussed earlier in the meeting.  This will be voted on at the June Meeting. 
    • Jen Ingle put a motion on the floor to use $500 from surplus funds to increase the budget of the Giving Garden to $1000 for the 2025-2026 School Year.  This will be voted on at our June Meeting 
  • A motion was brought to the floor to clost the May Meeting, was seconded and the May Meeting was concluded.
