OVHSA Meeting Minutes, January 2025

  • President (Joelle Bernhard) 
    • A motion was brought to the floor to vote in the December minutes, was seconded and passed.  The January meeting began. 
    • Congratulations to Kasey Dudley for being reappointed in as BOE president.  Kasey will remain our BOE rep this academic year.      
  • Board of Ed Rep (Kasey Dudley)
    • Congratulations to our Board of Education Members
      • We extend our heartfelt congratulations to our newly elected and returning members of the Board of Education. We are pleased to welcome back Michael Heller and Viviana Rojas, and we’re excited to introduce our new board member, Jessica Aviles.
      • Additionally, we extend our best wishes to Kasey Dudley, who has been reappointed and will serve as Board Mr. Ben Morse has been newly appointed to serve as Vice President. We look forward to working together to enhance educational opportunities for all Bloomfield students.
    • PowerSchool Reminder
      • Please take a moment to ensure that your contact information in PowerSchool is up to date. It’s essential that we have accurate and current information for both emergency situations and district-wide communication. Keeping your profile updated helps us maintain a safe and informed school environment.
    • Budget Season Update
      • We have successfully concluded district-level meetings for the 2024-2025 budget requests. The next step involves public presentations and discussions. A detailed calendar of public budget events will soon be available on the district. We encourage community members to participate in these events to stay informed about the budget process and its impact on our schools.
    • School News
      • We’re proud to congratulate all BHS seniors who have begun receiving acceptance notifications from colleges and universities! This is a significant milestone, and we wish them continued success in the next steps of their academic journeys.
      • For seniors seeking financial assistance, please remember to check all district social media channels regularly for updates on available scholarships.
      • Congratulations to all our schools' Teachers and Service Professionals of the Year! District-wide winners in each category will be announced soon.
      • Great job to all the staff and students who made our winter performances outstanding! The Fine Arts department had a wonderful holiday season.
      • BOSS students at BMS enjoyed a trip to the movies to see Moana 2! They were nominated by staff for demonstrating confidence, honor, and Congrats to all!
      • Thank you to all the HSAs for their enthusiastic participation in the highly successful Harlem Wizards basketball event! Your hard work and dedication made this exciting event possible, bringing together students, families, and staff for a fun-filled evening of entertainment and school spirit. It was truly a memorable experience, and everyone had a fantastic time!

    • Board of Education Recognition Month
      • January is Board of Education Recognition Month. We would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to all our volunteer board members for their unwavering dedication and commitment to providing the best possible education for our students. Their service plays a vital role in shaping the future of our schools.

    • Thank You: A heartfelt thank you to the HSA and all Oak View families for the generous gifts shared with our team during the holiday season. I also want to express gratitude to all classroom parents for volunteering their time and organizing the winter parties which were so much fun.  
    • HSA Basketball Kickoff: Special thanks to our HSA and parent coaches for an incredible basketball kickoff pep rally—what an exciting way to cheer on our Tigers! The teams performed wonderfully during the weekend games, showing great sportsmanship. 
    • Safety Reminder: Let’s support Ms. Pattie, our crossing guard, by adhering to traffic rules. Please avoid double parking, U-turns, and speeding. Refrain from parking in neighbors' driveways during drop-off and pick-up, particularly on Garner Avenue. 
    • Backstop Program: Session 2 of the Backstop Program for grades 3-6 will begin on Monday, January 13, and run through February 28. 
    • Caught with Character Program: Congratulations to all Tigers who were nominated by teachers and peers for demonstrating a positive attitude throughout December! We’re excited to celebrate their achievements with a special bagel breakfast.

    • Read-A-Thon 
      • Kicks off on 1/30 and run for 3 weeks in February.   Look for more info.
      • Used book sale: looking for volunteers!  Please reach out if you'd like to get involved!
    • Talent Show
      • To be held on 3/21
      • Call for grade act adult volunteers.  If you have question, please reach out!
      • Sign-ups for small group and individual acts to come. 
    • 6th Grade
      • Smencils Sales: 1/15 and 1/29 Smencil sales on blacktop.  All proceeds go to 6th grade graduation fund.  
      • Carwash: 5/10 (rain date 5/17)
      • Yearbook: Committee members, please choose your pages!
    • Enrichment (Krystal)
      • 1/30: Brazilian dance assembly
      • 2/25: Weather assembly 
    • Basketball  
      • Some games/practices rescheduled or relocated to Carteret.  Please check with your coaches if you have questions.

    • Nominations
      • Nominations for the new OVHSA Executive Board (2025-2027) will begin on February 7 and end on February 21. 
      • Process: A nomination form goes out, you may nominate yourself or someone else.  The nomination committee will ask those who were nominated if they would like to run.  Ballots will go out in March.  Incoming Board will be announced at April meeting.     
      • To run for a position, and to vote, you must be a dues paying member before the deadline of January 24 (14 days before nominations begin).  Those who run for President must have chaired a successful event/committee. 
      • Voting will be March 10-March 24. 
      • If you have any questions about the positions, the rules, or process please check out the website, review the bylaws, or reach out to any board member!   
    • After School Explorers 
      • Late winter session discussed; suggested starting week of 2/17 or 2/24 for 5 weeks. 
      • Chairs to coordinate with Talent Show committee.
      • Consideration will be made for those who were waitlisted last session.  
    • Spirit Wear store still open until end of May.
