OVHSA Meeting Minutes, June 7th, 2023
  • A motion was brought to the floor to vote the May meeting minutes in.  The vote was passed and the June meeting began.  
  •  Principal (Mrs. DiTrani)
    • Discussed indoor activities while air quality alerts prevent students from playing inside. 
    •  Jump Rope for Heart rescheduled from Monday, June 12th. 
    • NJSLA testing has been completed for the first time in 3 years.
    • Class Trips have all been completed. 
    • Fun Friday has been rescheduled for Tuesday, June 20th. 
    • The school is winding down activities. There will be some teacher reassignments in the fall.
    • Principal interviews begin June 15th.

      • Tom Fleming Sunset Classic-information for sign up on the website. 
        • June 29th will be the 34th running of this race
        • Please come out and support the runners along the route and also be aware of the many road closures to keep the runners safe.
      • NJSLA 2023 Information 
        • Testing is now complete, thank you to all for your cooperation and patience as we administered state testing for the first time in three years.
      • Thank you Mayor Michael Venezia and the entire Bloomfield Municipality for providing our students with such an informative, interactive, and positive Youth Government Day.
      • Juneteenth celebration information
    • BHS/BMS
      • Congratulations to our BHS Essex County Scholars- Peter Osondu and Marcella Rendon-Chaves. Peter will attend MIT and Marcella will attend NJIT in the fall.
      • Huge thank you to the Brookdale Shoprite for their extremely generous donation of $10,000 towards BHS Project Graduation!
      • BHS Senior, Andrew LoMonte, received the MSU Theatre Night Award for "Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Dramatic Play" for his role as Everyman in the BHS production of EVERYMAN.
      • BHS Seniors celebrated Prom on Thursday, May 25. Congrats to our 2023 Prom King and Prom Queen: Jayden Evans & Maiya Thomas.
    • Elementary Schools 
      • Thank you to all who made the annual DARE/LEAD picnic possible. This is our first once since the pandemic and the students had an absolute blast!

      • BHS Graduation will be Thursday June 22nd, please see school calendars for Kindergarten, 6th grade promotions and 8th grade graduation ceremonies
      • Friday, June 23, 2023 last day of school for students.

    • 6th Grade
      • Graduation party was last week - kids had a great time!
      • Out of pocket cost for students was only $35.10.  Thanks to all who helped raised money for the students! 
      • Legacy gift will be a "Spirit Rock", and the committee will need assistance moving it. Please reach out to Kate Wilson if you have access to a forklift. 
      • Graduation is June 15th.  5th Grade class parents are called upon to serve refreshments, set up and clean up.  3-4 Class parents are needed. 
      • Year Books were delivered and will be handed out day after graduation.
    •  Library Committee 
      •  The Library Committee will be working on cleaning up the library and helping Mrs. D'Avanzo get it ready for the fall.  Committee members have been contact, but if you'd like to help, please reach out!
