OVHSA Meeting Minutes, September 13th, 2023

    • Welcome all!
    • A motion was brought to the floor to vote the June meeting minutes in.  The vote was passed and the September meeting began.

          • Trainings for our staff were done again over the summer

        • Every family must submit this form yearly 
        • Can pick up paper copy at admin office in black mailbox outside the front door

      • TPASS System-all visitors must show government issued ID to gain access to all buildings 
      • District was awarded $17.2 million dollars from the ROD grant. Thank you to our entire Admin Staff, leading the way was our BA, Mrs. Vicky Guo along with our Architect Firm, Parette Somjen. 
        • District has completed several facility projects over the summer including the new turf at Foley Field and the opening of our New Snack Shack/Restroom Facility. 
        • Thank you to our custodial and maintenance staff for their hard work over the summer to make our buildings so beautiful to open school.

    • Membership (Emily Hallenbeck)
      • Membership is $20 per family.
      • Member are entitled to 1 vote per family.
      • Membership dues go towards many of our services (assemblies, offset class trips, etc.)
      • If you buy your membership by Monday, October 2nd, you are automatically entered into our annual Parking Spot raffle.  You can win an reserved parking spot in the parent parking lot for the whole year.  
    • FUNRaising
      • Dine-to-Donate once a month at local businesses. 
      • October 3rd at Rita's, will give us 20% back from 6pm-9pm, with spin-it-to-win-it for prizes ($1/ spin)
      • October 25th will be dine-in Bella Napoli, we get 20% back, kids eat free. 
      • November/December will be Anthony's Cheesecake. 
    • Fall Social (Trunk or Treat)
      • October 20th (rain date is October 27th)
      • Tickets will go on sale next week.  Postscript: Tickets are available now!
      • Discounted admission for OVHSA members ($10/family).  If you are not an OVHSA member, tickets are $15/family. 
      • DJ, pumpkin carving contest, trick-or-treating, sensory friendly 7-7:30, general admission is 7:30-9:00pm
      • Please volunteer to decorate your car!
      • This event to Oak VIew students and their immediate families only. 
    • Thank you to the Foley and Lombardy families for preparing the school grounds for the 1st day of school!

      • Pretend play unit and new tables should be delivered in 2 weeks, along with a sign listing donors who contributed to the playground project
      • BOE and DOT will be assembling--thank you for your patience!

      • Upcoming: Hispanic Heritage, Diwali, Principles of Hip-Hop, Lunar New Year, Filipino dance, Autism tips for inclusion, Lego Robotics 
    • 6th Grade
      • Car Wash September 23rd. Postscript: rescheduled due to rain for September 30. 
      • Cookie Dough drive coming up. 
      • All proceeds go to 6th grade graduation costs (yearbooks, t-shirts, graduation party, etc.)
      • Yearbook:  Please do not email photos unless you are a teacher;  if you are a 6th grade parent, please upload your photos to TreeRing.  Instructions have been emailed and posted to WhatsApp group.
  • New Business
    • Proposals
      • Proposal to purchase a Bike Rack (Proposal coming soon).
        • Discussion of Health & Wellness contributing to the purchase of the bike rack.  Chairs would need to know how big it needs to be and where the rack would go.  Cammie to look at H&W budget.  
        • Principal Lo has reached out to BOE Business Administrator Vicky Guo.  Preferred size is as big as possible; location is TBD. 
        • Mention of Bicycle Safety assembly. 
      • Proposal to purchase sports equipment ($250). (Proposal coming soon).
        • Discussion of families donating sports equipments. Discussion of Wish List and "Do Not Want" list.  Discussion of doing a sports equipment drive. 
        • Principal Lo to look at storage facilities and collaborate with  Mr. Rosetti.
        • Emily Hallenbeck noted that the Playground Committee helps purchase equipment for the playground and blacktop for students to use.  
        • Clarification that new equipment would be used for recess.  
      • Proposal to increase the budget for more assemblies 
        • We have 8 assemblies are planned (1 is free), the OVHSA needs to pay for 7 assemblies. 
        • Principal Lo would like to add 2 more assemblies, totaling 1/month.

    • Questions:
      • Marker Drive:  This was through a K-Kids service project.  Possible to do this again through K-Kids?  Suggestion to Guidance Dept. 
      • Parking
        • Parking Spot Raffle clarification: If you win, you will have your own spot.  
        • What has changed with parking in parent lot?  Principal Lo looking to improve the flow of traffic and safety, and being courteous other families doing drop-off. 
        • Clarification the OVHSA "Socials" are for OV students and immediate families only. 
      • Pumpkin Patch is coming up.  Open call for small sugar pumpkin vendors.  If you have a sugar pumpkins hook-up, please reach out!
      • Clarification:  Oak View HSA Facebook group for HSA updates only.  Oak View Parents is for the larger Oak View Community.
