Read-a-Thon

Oak View Home & School Association—with the immense help of your children—is hosting a READ-A-THON as our fall fundraiser. Fundraisers are hosted throughout the year to provide programs and products that aid in the enrichment and education of all children attending Oak View Elementary. Our FALL fundraising stretch goal this year is $12,000! We know this amazing community—and our eager readers—can crush this goal. GO TIGERS!

Starting the morning of Tuesday, November 1, Read-a-thon committee members will leave a folder for each student in each classroom. These will contain two forms: 1) a reading minutes daily log and 2) a pledge overview with instructions on how students may gather pledges and collect donations via an online link. Students should collect their folders that Tuesday and bring them home for the week to log reading minutes each night. All reading counts! All books/graphic novels/comics/magazines…or recipes, letters (or emails) from family . . . Kindergarten, 1st grade, and ABA students may include any minutes read to them, too.

On Wednesday, November 9, AND Friday, November 18, children should drop their folders, including completed reading minutes daily logs, into the box in their classroom. Committee members will collect the folders and count minutes the SAME DAY. Students will receive achievement pins if they’ve reached milestones of total minutes read (100, 250, 500, 750, 1,000, 2,000, 3,000…).

On Wednesday, November 30, students will hand in their folders for a final time. Every student will receive credit for 20 minutes of reading time in the classroom on Wednesday 11/30, as a final push. All other in-class reading during the month does not qualify. Read-a-thon committee members will collect folders on that Wednesday and finalize the minutes read. The winning classes, by grade, will be announced Wednesday, November 30.

Mrs. DiTrani will share updates weekly throughout November, and each week’s winning classes will proudly display blue and yellow stars on their classroom windows for all to see—classes only compete within their grade; grades do not compete with one another. The winning class in each grade receives an invite to a super fun blacktop celebration, and the Oak View reader with the highest number of minutes read across all grades will win a $100 gift card to Target!

The OVHSA will be hosting a used book sale on the Oak View blacktop on Tuesday, November 15 & Wednesday, November 16 —COME STOCK UP ON NEW BOOKS STARTING AT $1!

We are so excited to bring back this fundraiser to our school. Please support the OVHSA with a donation and support your children with reading encouragement. Go Tigers!
